Outcome™ Connect

An EHR Partnership Program

Outcome Connect is a partnership program designed to help Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems more rapidly and efficiently meet emerging quality reporting and integration requirements and needs of their customers, including meaningful use requirements. This partnership allows for data being collected within the EHR to be used for secondary uses without the need to re-enter data into multiple systems. The Outcome Connect program uses healthcare industry standards and offers revenue opportunities for providers and EHR vendors for their participation.

Industry Standards

Outcome Connect technology is based on healthcare industry standards defined by Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) and the Health IT Standards Panel (HITSP). Outcome has adopted IHE Profiles and HITSP constructs that play a key role in interoperability between EHR systems and Outcome’s eClinical solutions.

RFD is a new standard that focuses on connecting data from Electronic Health Records (EHR) and other sponsored studies to other systems, such as registries. RFD was developed by the Clinical Data Interchange Consortium (CDISC) as a way to create a direct link between EHRs and clinical management systems. It allows a case report form from an electronic data capture (EDC) system or registry to be pre-populated and presented in the EHR, reducing duplicate data entry, and the amount of effort required by practice staff, and subsequently cost to participate in such programs.

Annually, Quintiles Outcome participates in the IHE Connectathon where our solutions are tested with EHR vendors to ensure proper use of these standards and connectivity to participating EHR vendor systems. Qualifying vendors passing IHE Connectathon testing may participate in the Interoperability Showcase at the HIMSS annual conference and demonstrate these capabilities.

In 2009, Quintiles Outcome personnel were invited instructors at the CDISC conference Interchange in Japan, and the CDISC Interchange in North America to teach the first ever Healthcare Link/RFD training class.
