Meaningful Use Quality ReportingOutcome is pleased to announce the Outcome TotalQuality® Reporting Service, a certified electronic health record (EHR) technology reporting module for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Meaningful Use quality reporting initiative. Data collection for Meaningful Use began October 1, 2011. Incentive Payments The HITECH Act portion of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) authorizes incentive payments to providers and hospitals for the "Meaningful Use" of certified health IT products. Hospitals which adopt a certified EHR and demonstrate meaningful use in 2011 will be among the first wave to qualify for their Meaningful Use incentive payments, which can accrue between $2 million and $11 million over five years between 2011 and 2015. Quality reporting is one of 24 areas of EHR technology which have been designated by CMS for meaningful use. Quality Measures To qualify for the meaningful use quality reporting requirement, hospitals must submit performance data on 15 quality measures for stroke, venous thromboembolism (VTE) and emergency room care. Reporting must include all patients, regardless of payer (Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance), for a 90 day period. Outcome will offer reporting for all 15 of the hospital quality measures. Hospitals using an EHR system can use the Outcome service. Automation tools will help hospitals at progressive levels of EHR implementation to use the service. For a list of the 15 quality measures, download the Outcome brochure.Use Data Already Collected Hospitals already familiar with the Outcome system through participation in the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke program or the Outcome Core Measure program will benefit from all of their current data collection efforts and will require minimal additional effort to complete the CMS Meaningful Use quality data submission.
