Outcome DeCIDE Center

Outcome is an Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)  (Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions about Effectiveness) Research Center, one of 13 research centers selected to conduct accelerated practiced studies about the outcomes, comparative clinical effectiveness, safety, and appropriateness of healthcare items and services.

The research centers are collectively known as the DEcIDE Network, part of the AHRQ’s Effective Healthcare Program. The program was authorized under Section 1013 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003. The program is designed to help clinicians and patients determine which drugs and medical treatments work best for certain health conditions. Operating under strict procedures to guarantee privacy and security, the centers use de-identified data available through insurers, health plans, and other partner organizations to answer questions about the use, benefits, and risks of medications, devices, and other therapies.

Through Outcome’s role as a DEcIDE Center, the company was awarded the task order “Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes,” a project which led Outcome’s Drs Richard Gliklich and Nancy Dreyer as the principal investigators and senior editors to develop the landmark federal handbook “Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes: A User’s Guide,” released in May 2007.
